Happiness is a journey not a destination.... for a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin- real life but there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective has helped me to see there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for no one. - Souza
At the start of this chapter this is the quote that came to my mind first when I thought about meaning. It is the things, the obstacles in our lives that give meaning to our lives. The obstacles are our lives and those are the things that give us character and give us meaning. Meaning is what grows from suffering.

Pink argues that we are now freed from the struggle for survival, and we now have the luxury of devoting more of our lives to the search for meaning. I disagree because now that we also have an abundance of things, that we want, we are now in a fight for survival through payments. There is not much time to spend in quite or else where enjoying life when we have to constantly be paying things, bills. I think that it will take more effort and a lot of time before the search for meaning is brought to its highest point. If it is already there then why are there so many drug overdoses and alcoholics? I think that there needs to be enough of a change to where people feel as if there is meaning in their life, those who take their own life, in my opinion, feel as if they do not have meaning in their life. It shocked me that 58% of Americans say that they think often about the meaning and purpose of life. It never feels to me that the world today looks any further than the surface level. It seems like they are kind of shallow.... not everyone, but the vast majority..... Because people do not search for the meaning in others they rather look at the surface level and judge from there.

Meaning definitely is becoming more prominent in the working field. People are now searching for jobs not just because they need them but also because they enjoy them. My parents always encourage me to have a job that will mean something to me. I know that if the job did not have a significant meaning to me I would not do well in it and would not like going to my job everyday. I would feel as if I was wasting my life doing something that I don't enjoy when I have the choice to do something I do enjoy.

Symphony has a lot to do with meaning also. If two different things work together in a symphony it can often bring about new meaning to things.
Pink brought up a point that people who pray often have lower blood pressure. I think that this is because they have a time at the end of the day where they debrief and relax instead of running all day long and never stopping then staying up late and going again the next day. I know that when I debrief at the end of the day I can work much better the next. Also whenever I go on a mission trip we always debrief at the end of the day and talk about our experiences and what we learned kind of like what Mrs. Smith does for us in the check point days.

There was actually this one episode of Grey's Anatomy where the patient was healed through faith and prayer like pink talks about.

It bothered me that Pink failed to mention the whole minded approach until this chapter. Isn't that what this whole book is supposed to be about and get across, why wait until the last chapter to present the idea?

We should start a revolution called a happiness revolution because it could help add meaning to the life of others because happiness is contagious. Also the attitude of doing things for yourself rather than waiting for the answer to magically appear also is contagious and the attitude that you are doing these things for the benefit of internal feelings and rewards rather then material possessions.

I realized that the conceptual age basically means that everything will be searching for a whole and will need to be whole. This all reminds me of a circle and how it seems more whole to me than a square. Also in feng shui corners (like a square) are bad and disrupt the flow of energy.
